On November 6th Future of Forestry hosted a seminar titled Building the Bioeconomy Together. With a new European Commission soon in place, forestry and wood-working organisations across ten EU member states convened in Brussels on the topic of how a new bioeconomy strategy and the clean industrial deal can reinforce Europe’s competitiveness and climate ambitions, and why substitution matters.
Speakers and guests included: Kerstin Jorna, Director DG Grow, Alexandre Paquot, Director DG CLIMA, Håkan Buskhe, CEO FAM AB, Alexander Bernhuber, Group of the European People’s Party and Christian Democrats in Austria, Mette Kahlin McVeigh, Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs Stora Enso, Peep Pitk, Chief Development Officer Fibenol, Carl Anton zu Waldeck, German Forest Owner Association and Paula Lehtomäki, Director General at Finnish Forest Industries Federation.
Håkan Buskhe, CEO of FAM AB, concluded the seminar by reflecting on the importance of active sustainable forest management to provide Europe with the necessary building blocks to replace fossil materials.
